Every genre of music TODAY has been influenced by the roots of rock and Motown. Everything. And every person has their personal preference when it comes to a favourite. Mine is Duran Duran and the pop music of the 80s. Yet...I listen to AND appreciate all genres of music. The music of years past...is what makes the music of today!

I'm done with the R&R Hall. Madonna? Run DMC? What the hell? I do wish they would put out a DVD of the best performances of the induction ceremonies (good thing Madonna didn't perform, I would just fast forward past her).

Though some of his music can't be considered rock, Mr. Waits deserves to be in the R&R Hall. He is an amazing artist who has been making official albums since 1973. The real rock-type music came out after that first album, Closing Time, but one album shouldn't stop him. Look at Bone Machine, or Mule Variations. He's got rock sprinkled into every album since the seventies, and he is still a powerful artist. I've been listening since I was five or six, and he still doesn't stop amazing me. Every new album I uncover, or single I dig up is another treasure to add to the huge mound of gold that is his career. Even now, when most people don't care for the older artists and even more refuse to buy CDs, Waits' latest album, Orphans, has gone gold. I believe with every fiber of my being that this man should be in the hall. (By the way, HA! to all the collectors of his music. Just found two more singles and 3 more live albums! bought them last night. Go internet!)

I have come to the conclusion that to be inducted into the rock hall of fame an individual or group should have a major influence on the rock scene.
The Moody Blues weren't influential. Neither were Chicago, Styx, Boston, Heart, Foreigner, the Guess Who (the list goes on). These bands had been influenced by others ahead of them, no doubt, but they didn't necessarily carve out their own niche. I love all of these bands, they were what I "cut my teeth on" as a young rock listener.
Heart was so obviously influenced by Led Zeppelin that they out "Zepped" them with Little Queen on a head to head competition with Presence which came out at the same time. But, after that album they sizzled away to pop doldrumville.
In comparison, Aerosmith was also obviously influenced by Led Zeppelin but they went ahead to create their own strongly unique style and soared to unbelievable heights.
Loving a band because of the memories that their music produce doesn't make them unique or influential.
Rush, on the other hand, does definitely deserve to be in the hall of fame. Their influences were not as evident by their style of Rock. I hear hints of Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf when I listen to their music but they were quite unique and influential on their own.

The gentlemen above who identify themselves as "Ed" or "Michael 48" don't appear do know a great deal regarding popular music throughout the previous century aside from what commercial radio formats taught them. Should Rush receive induction due to its aural numbing and lyrically pretentious formula? Don't profess to be members of the cognoscenti until you can appreciate artists such as Black Flag and/or the Replacements because they provided a relieving alternative to your stale preference.

Was that a list of people who do not belong? Any list needs to start with RUSH. It's absurd that they are not in.

The next few I would put in would be Iron Maiden, Dio and Uriah Heep. No way does any Rap, Funk or Pop belong in the Rock Hall Of Fame.

Status Quo anyone????While they never realized overall acceptance in the US,except for "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" in 1968, they have gone on to achieve a great amount of popularity worldwide and deserve to be in the damn Hall as much as anyone. When someone says "ROCK" in many places on Earth, the first band they think of is:STATUS QUO!!!!!!!

A weak list. Have you ever heard of The Moody Blues, Three Dog Night, ELO, Procol Harum, Tommy James & the Shondells, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Tom Jones, Alice Cooper, and Steppenwolf? With your selections, and many of the other inductees from previous years, no wonder the Rock Hall is struggling to exist. It has no relevance.
